WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Scientists in the United States and Spain say the risk of cardiovascular disease is rising in people who sleep less than six hours a day, compared to those who sleep seven to eight hours a day.
The study covered 3,774 Spanish citizens who, during the trial period, made a device measuring sleep and wakefulness, and underwent echocardiography and computer tomography to diagnose diseases. .
The results showed that those who slept less than six hours were 27% more likely to develop atherosclerosis than those who slept between 7 and 8 hours. In addition, the risk of cardiovascular disease increased by 34% due to lack of sleep and nocturnal awakening.
However, it has been found that a sleep of more than 8 hours a day could contribute to the development of atherosclerosis. Interestingly, those who have been sleeping for a few years often eat coffee and alcohol. Scientists believe that the damage caused by coffee is based on the slow absorption of some people.
