Malaysia denied the title of world swimming champion because of Israel

The Olympic Paralympic Committee announced Sunday that the World Swimming Championships scheduled for this year were withdrawn from Malaysia.

The World Swimming Championships were scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 4.

This tournament is one of the qualifying events for the 2020 Paralympic Games in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, where more than 600 athletes from 70 countries will participate.

"The committee has withdrawn Malaysia's right to host the Paralympic World Swimming Championships to be held in Kuching," the Paralympic Committee said in a statement.

She explained that "the decision was made by the board of directors of the committee at its meeting in London after the inability of the Malaysian Interior Ministry to provide the necessary guarantees enabling the Israeli swimmers to participate without discrimination ".

"Non-discrimination includes full compliance with the Song and Flags Committee's protocols and the provision of visas when needed".

"All world championships must be open to all athletes and nations able to compete safely and without discrimination," said Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons.

"When a host country excludes athletes from a particular country, for political reasons, we have no choice but to seek a new host."

Malaysia announced on Jan. 16 that it would hold no future events, including Israel or its representatives, as host of Israeli athletes as a "crime".
