"Parsons" considered that international tournaments should be open

The International Olympic Committee for Special Needs decided Sunday to withdraw Malaysia's right to hold the 2019 World Swimming Championships because of its threat of not allowing Israeli athletes to participate in the tournament.

"The decision was made after the Malaysian Interior Ministry failed to obtain the necessary guarantees to participate in the tournament without discrimination or security," the committee said in a statement.

"When a country hosts an athlete from a given country for political reasons, we have no choice but to seek another host country," said the committee chairman, Andrew Parsons.

"All international tournaments must be open to all qualified athletes and eligible countries to participate safely without discrimination," Parsons said.

The qualification championships for the Tokyo Paralympic Games were to be held in Kuching from July 29 to August 4.
