At least 2 million people worldwide have been exposed to cancer-causing chemicals in China's high blood pressure-lowering drugs, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Sunday.

And more than one million people affected in the United States, who rely heavily on China for their pharmaceutical ingredients.

Last summer, dozens of widely prescribed drugs for the treatment of heart failure and hypertension – including valsartan, losartan, and irbesartan – appeared to have dangerously high levels of known carcinogens, NDEA and NDMA, significantly above the legal limit in the United States.

This has led to a global recovery for seven months – and now only, the Food and Drug Administration publishes details on how this happened and the number of people affected.

In its report on the results of the study last Friday, the Food and Drug Administration reduced the importance of these substances and insisted that, even if carcinogenic concentrations were above the legal limit, the risk cancer was not high, compared to cancer products that appear when roasting meat.

Health policy experts say the situation is far more important than the organizers want because millions of people are in danger and reveal America's imbalanced relationship with China.

The impurities present in some of the most commonly prescribed drugs against heart failure and hypertension are a byproduct of the mixture of certain active ingredients.

The problem, experts say, is that the Zhejiang Huahai pharmaceutical industry in China may not have been able to use tools to control these contaminants.
