Qatar defeated Japan 3-1 in the Asian Cup final at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday to win the continental title for the first time in its history.
Qatar took the lead with two goals from Al Moez Ali in the 12th minute and Abdul Aziz Hatem in the 27th minute before Takumi Minaminu reduced his gap over Japan in the 69th minute.
Akram Afif added the third goal to Qatar after a penalty shot in the 83rd minute of referee Ravshan Irmatov after reviewing the rules of the video assistant.
