As medicine progresses in the treatment of many incurable diseases, cancer remains the most lethal disease in humans and effective treatment remains a target for science at an accelerated rate. The world is meeting today on February 4 to fight the cancer epidemic. Can be avoided each year by educating individuals and governments around the world about cancer, as well as correcting common misconceptions and myths about the disease.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Health, cancer is the most prevalent disease in the world. It accounts for 1 in 6 deaths worldwide and one-third of cancer deaths are due to major behavioral risks: obesity, low consumption of fruits and vegetables, smoking and alcohol abuse.
In Saudi Arabia, breast cancer is the most common among women, while colon cancer is the most common among men.
Objectives of the World Day:
• Reduce by 25% premature deaths from noncommunicable diseases by 2025.
• Educate and educate communities about cancer and prevention methods.
• Encourage early detection, preventative vaccines and awareness of their importance.
• To ensure that solutions are possible and available, and that we – individuals or government and non-government institutions and agencies – can provide support, awareness and prevention of cancer.
This year's World Cancer Day sets a new slogan for 2019, including "I am and I will do it", which means "This is me and I am going to do it".
On February 4, 2019, the Saudi Cancer Society organized World Cancer Day under the slogan "This is what I will do for 14 days".
