Jose Mourinho accepts a settlement in case of tax evasion in Spain

Portuguese football coach Jose Mourinho has been sentenced to one year in prison in Spain for tax evasion, but he will not actually be imprisoned.

According to an agreement, a fine of an amount of two million euros will be added to a one – year prison sentence, a fine of 18 2500 euros.

The Spanish authorities rarely apply prison sentences to persons who have not previously been sentenced or in non-criminal cases, provided that the sentence is less than two years.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi and former team-mate Neymar also found themselves in a legal battle against the Spanish tax authorities.

As in many cases, Mourinho's contract, which had escaped him from prison, had previously been agreed with the tax authorities.

Mourinho representatives declined to comment on the issue.

The investigators said Mourinho had set up companies abroad to manage his image rights, hiding his profits from the tax authorities.

The move from Mourinho to Manchester United in 2016 was postponed after it appeared that his former team, Chelsea, was the owner of the mark.

Spanish investigators said that Mourinho had founded several economic entities in the British Virgin Islands and elsewhere to manage its image rights.
