Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes the Premier League title this season could be determined by the difference in goals due to intense competition.
"The first message I tell players is the need to win any match," Guardiola said, including on the Premier League website on Wednesday.
"The second message is that if you can score more goals, I can do it, and if you can avoid hitting our net, do it because you could be crowned with a goal difference."
City players scored 66 goals but 20 goals, the league's best in terms of goal difference +46, while Liverpool leaders scored 56 goals and only 15 goals, a goal difference of + 41.
The fight was particularly intense in the English Premier League after clashes between Liverpool leaders Monday and West Ham United who scored 3 points for City.
City can beat the standings with a different goal difference from Liverpool if they win Wednesday's tough confrontation at Goodison Park ahead of Everton.
The league gave the match as City will play the FA Cup final against Chelsea on February 24th.
The champions of the Premier League play several matches in February while they continue to dispute the FA Cup and the Champions League.
After the Everton meeting, Citi will welcome Chelsea into the league on Sunday and six days later he will face Newport County in the UEFA Cup finals.
City will play in the first leg of the last Champions League game against Schalke 04 on February 20th and 96 hours later Chelsea will win the League Cup.
