It seems that the United States did not wait long after revealing the intentions of Russia, China and the European Union to establish "permanent bases" on the moon, announcing their intention to establish their own base on the ground.
NASA director Jim Brydenstein has announced his intention to go to the moon and stay there, according to The Independent.
Brydenstein said that the goal of the plans was to send astronauts to the moon permanently over the next decade and called on the best and brightest US industry to participate in the design and development of vehicles allowing landing on the Moon.
"What he means by coming back to the moon, it's not what NASA had done 50 years ago, but staying, using new technologies and new systems to explore more of sites on the moon, "he said. "This time we will go to the moon and stay there.
Brydenstein set up next week to launch the program, which will first invite private sector employees and from all over to attend a meeting at NASA headquarters to discuss ideas about a spacecraft to land on the moon.
Until now, NASA has contracted with nine companies for sending shipments to the moon, the ultimate goal being to develop a spacecraft to transport astronauts to the moon. Earth to the Moon and vice versa.
The race for the lunar moon, preceded by China, Russia and the European Union, was launched.
