Mothers usually advise their children to sleep to recover from the cold. Apparently, the advice is scientifically correct.
German researchers have discovered that sleep improves the effectiveness of some immune cells by increasing their chances of being attached to virus-infected cells and ultimately destroying them.
They were able to prove that lack of sleep and long periods of tension resulted in high levels of hormones that seemed to impede the transition process that helps boost the protein needed to treat the diseases.
"If a person wants to boost his immune system, he has to get enough sleep every night and avoid chronic stress," said Stoyan Dimitrov, a researcher at the Tobinen University in Germany.
