Ottawa- NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Cannabis drug use among adolescents increases the risk of depression and suicidal behavior in adulthood, contrary to what is known today to be the most One of the factors that push young people to use cannabis, according to a recent international study.
Researchers at the Research Institute of the Health Center at McGill University of Canada, Oxford University and Rutgers University of America discovered that cannabis abuse can affect mental health even in adolescents who had not reported any depressive symptoms before the start of treatment.
"When we started this study, we expected depression to be one of the factors driving youth to use cannabis," said lead researcher Dr. Gabriella Gobi of McGill University. But we were quite surprised, because depression and suicide behavior have increased among young people because of cannabis.
Previous research has shown a strong link between adolescent cannabis abuse and high rates of severe mental illness, especially schizophrenia and memory loss.
