Economic expert Raya Hafar al-Hassan has become the first Arab woman to occupy the highest security post in Lebanon, a precedent in the Arab world, following the announcement by Prime Minister Saad Hariri of the new government.

Hariri chose Rana al-Hassan to take over the portfolio of the Interior Ministry within his third government, which he announced Thursday after 9 months of commissioning, as a result of his efforts. an agreement between the political forces.

Ten years later, Al Hassan resumed his post of minister after succeeding the first government of Mr. Hariri, the Ministry of Finance, between 2009 and 2011.

In his first mission, Hariri took the new minister to the mausoleum of the late Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri, in a move that some described as having many political and security clues.

Economic and financial expertise

She holds a BA in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut in 1987 and an MBA from George Washington University in 1990.

The new Minister of the Interior, immediately after his return from a master's degree to work at the Ministry of Finance, between 1992 and 1999, as adviser to the Minister of Finance.

In December 2000 and June 2003, she was advisor to the Minister of Economy and Trade.

She has also held the position of Project Manager for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) 'Institutional Assistance for Economic Policy and Trade' program.

She has been responsible for several government-led projects, including supporting the Prime Minister in a number of policies, technical assistance and capacity building.

Supervised the World Bank's project to design and implement social sector reforms and co-established a World Bank Multi-Donor Trust Fund for the reconstruction of the Palestinian Nahr al-Bared camp.

Al Hassan worked as project manager for EU-funded projects "Supporting the implementation of social and economic reforms".

She also served as project director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) "Strengthening decision-making capacity in the Prime Minister's Office".

His last position prior to his appointment to the new government dates back to April 8, 2015, when former Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam decided to form a board of directors for an economic organization in Tripoli, including Raya al-Sabah. Hassan was elected President and Chief Executive Officer.

The new minister was born in 1967. She is married to Dr. Jinnah al-Hassan and has three daughters.

Hariri included four women, namely Raya al-Hassan, Minister of the Interior, Nadi al-Bustani, and May Chidiac, Minister of State for Administrative Development, and Violet Khairallah al-Safadi, Minister of the Interior. State responsible for the social reintegration of young men and women.
