Dr. Mona Al-Muslamani, Medical Director of the Center for Transitional Diseases, said the center provides integrated health care to patients with transient diseases such as tuberculosis, Middle East respiratory syndrome, influenza, measles, hepatitis, HIV / AIDS and transient illnesses associated with overseas travel.
She added that the center diagnoses, treats and educates patients-related diseases as a first-of-its-kind and plays a leading role in providing high-quality health care services in the area of treatment of transient diseases. in the region, as well as the adoption of procedures and controls that limit the spread of these diseases.
In order to reduce the spread of transient illnesses in Qatar, the Center for Transient Diseases conducts tests on people in contact with patients with transient illnesses such as tuberculosis patients. Last year, the Center carried out more than 4,100 exams for this group of people. The Center's most important procedures for reducing the spread of infectious diseases, including tuberculosis in its active or latent form.
Dr. Al-Muslamani explained that in addition to testing people who may be contracting diseases because of their contact with infected patients, the center recorded about 40,000 patient visits undergoing direct treatment in 2018. , most of them receiving anti-tuberculosis drugs under the direct supervision of medical staff, The purpose of this study is to ensure that the patient regularly takes all doses of prescribed drugs, to monitor the response of patients to these drugs and prevent antimicrobial resistance.
She noted that the center's services were not limited to outpatient care, but provided high-quality, integrated health care to hospitalized patients with infectious diseases requiring hospitalization, which last year numbered 1,200 patients.
The Transitional Illness Center also includes a travel clinic, which was opened in January 2017 to provide travelers abroad with medical advice, vaccinations and preventive measures prior to travel to prevent infectious diseases. and to evaluate the health status of people returning from contagious areas, to ensure that they are free of diseases.
