Ahmed Aboul Gheit, secretary-general of the Arab League, said on Sunday that more than half of the world's displaced people are from our Arab homeland, adding that 20% of the Arab population live in a situation of "multidimensional poverty".

Aboul Gheit urged Lebanon to control the crisis of the Libyan flag fire on its territory a few days ago, which resulted in the absence of Tripoli from the summit on development and the economy that it is open today in Beirut.
Aboul Gheit said in his summit address: "I am saddened and regretted that Libya has not participated in the Beirut summit and I count on the wisdom of Lebanese President Michel Aoun to contain the crisis".
Last Monday, the government of the Libyan National Agreement announced that it would not participate in the summit after the publication of an "offensive" video describing the process of tearing the Libyan flag and its withdrawal of supporters of the Lebanese Shiite Amal movement to protest the invitation of Tripoli to participate in the summit.
"Our summit took place after a six-year absence during which we were busy with major events, and some of our countries have had – and still are – different types of security problems, political unrest and humanitarian crises, "he said.
"There is still more than half of the Arab world's oil exports, and there is even greater need to diversify economies to protect them from the fluctuations associated with energy prices."
"We need to be at the top of our agenda in the next phase, and we need more efforts, as more than half of the Arab world's population is not connected to the Internet," he said. he declared.
"About 20% of the population of the Arab world lives in conditions of multidimensional poverty, measured not only by income indicators, but also by opportunities in education, health care and living conditions" , did he declare.
"Unfortunately, the Arab world is home to about half of the world's refugees and internally displaced persons – just to know that about 4 million Syrian children have left their schools because of the seven-year war. years."
He referred to the "serious humanitarian crises in Somalia and Yemen", calling for the absence of "the tragic reality that our people endures daily in Palestine because of Israel's occupation of the closure, the siege" and unfair practices ".
He called the world to face tough issues in the future without delay or delay, stressing that it's "about food issues of more than 360 million Arabs, while preserving the meager Arab water resources, no more than 1% of the world's freshwater resources, The climate and technological development that threaten traditional jobs. "
He revealed that "the negotiation of the Great Arab Free Trade Area is about to reach its goal and that nearly 95% of the detailed rules of origin have been completed".
The leaders of the Beirut summit will also participate in the summit, alongside Lebanese President Michel Aoun, the Emir of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. The other countries are represented by heads of government or ministers.
Syria is absent from the summit due to the absence of an official invitation from the League of Arab States, which suspended Damascus membership in 2011.
