An armed spokesman for the Egyptian armed forces announced Wednesday that eight gunmen had been killed during attacks on terrorist strongholds in northern Sinai.
Colonel Tamer Rifai said in a statement that "anti-terrorist forces in northern Sinai have targeted seven terrorist targets and managed to eliminate 8 high-level terrorist elements and destroy 2 car bombs."
The armed forces announced last Saturday that an armed attack directed against one of the security facilities in North Sinai had faced terrorist elements and had made it possible to confront these elements. She had managed to eliminate 7 recruits and kill 15 soldiers.
Since 9 February 2018, the Egyptian armed forces, in cooperation with the police, have been conducting a massive security operation called "Sinai 2018" to rid them of terrorist elements.
Since 2013, clashes have taken place between security services and armed groups, following the dismissal of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.
