Honda, Japan's largest automaker, announced Tuesday the closure of its British plant in 2021, threatening to create 3,500 jobs.
The company said in a statement that its decision resulted from "unprecedented changes in the global auto industry" in its interpretation of the decision to close the plant in 2021 at the end of the current production cycle.
The decision of the Japanese company was taken as a result of concern over the exit of Britain from the European Union (BRIC).
The company said Honda's European headquarters would remain in Britain.
Britain must leave the European Union on March 29, but the British government is trying to change the terms of Prescott in the agreement with Brussels for the approval of British MPs, who have overwhelmingly rejected the text in January.
