The game also saw the referee resort to the technique of refereeing the video assistant, author of a penalty for Atletico in the first half, and the goal of the Spanish star Alvaro Morata in the second half.
Atletico's chances are very good for the quarterfinals of his first dream, with a one-goal loss in the second leg against Juventus on March 12th.
For its part, Juventus must win at least three goals, to avoid the premature exit of the competition that culminated in the Italian team in 1985 and 1996.
Manchester City's also approached the quarterfinals, after winning a valuable 3-2 win at Schalke 04.
Argentine striker Sergio Aguero scored for Manchester City in the 18th minute, but Algerian star Nabil Ben Taleb tied for Schalke 38 minutes from a penalty.
Ben Taleb scored again, scoring the second goal in the 45th minute of the penalty, ending the first period with a 2-0 lead at Schalke 04.
In the second half, the young German Leroy Sani equalized for Manchester City in the 85th minute and Rahim Stirling added a third goal in the 90th minute, although the English team suffered a shortage in numbers following the dismissal Argentine Nicolas Antamendi in the 68th minute for a second warning.
Manchester City had enough to lose 1-0 or 1-2 in the return leg, which will take place at Citi Stadium on March 12, to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament that they dream of winning for the first time of their history.
For his part, Schalke must win by two goals or a difference of goals provided that he succeeds in scoring at least four goals in order to avoid the quick exit of the glory of the European cups.
