Rami Malek, the American actor of Egyptian descent, won the Oscar for Best Actor at the 91st Film Festival of the Year.
In his speech after the award, Malik spoke of his pride in the prize and its Egyptian origin. "I am the son of Egyptian immigrants, I know him well and I am grateful to all who are here and to all who believe in me at this time that I will cherish all my life," Malik said.
Malik said that he was proud to "join" Queen's international team and play for Freddie Mercury, who was also proud of his national origins and his sexual identity.
Malik won the 2019 Oscar for Best Actor for the role of rock star Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody", which earned him the award for his first nomination.
