Maintaining a healthy weight has many benefits, including reducing the risk of premature death and skin integrity.

But a new study from the University of North Dakota suggests that weight loss surgery can improve the quality of a person's sex life, Daily Mail ".

The study, which included more than 2,000 obese patients, revealed that surgery made them more sexually active and that they could be satisfied even five years after the procedure.

In the study published in the journal JAMA Surgery, the researchers said that obesity had been associated with a poor quality of sexual life in the past.

Although previous studies have shown that weight loss surgery promotes sexual life in obese patients, it is often small and is not subject to close follow-up.

The researchers analyzed the status of 2036 adults who participated in obesity surgery treatment, "Surgery-2", in 10 US hospitals.

All patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery were suffering from obesity.

Before undergoing surgery, patients completed a questionnaire asking questions about sexual satisfaction, desire, and activity.

The results revealed that 70% of women and 74% of men were not satisfied with their sex life before weight loss. But a year later, 56% of women and 49.2% of men reported a significant improvement.

About 60% of women and 67% of men complained of "sexual restrictions" because of their excessive weight before being operated on. But five years after the procedure, 73.6% of women and 67.7% of men reported an improvement in their sex life.

The study showed that the effects were more pronounced among women: one-third of them reported an improvement in their sexual desires and their overall activity. Men also benefited, but at lower rates.

Surgical operations helped to relieve the depression of the patients, which resulted in an increase in sexual desire and a limitation of restrictions on intimacy.
