Just like the Spanish flu pandemic, which killed about one-fifth of the world's population, scientists warned of a deadly epidemic called "X-disease", the spread of which would kill millions of people.
Scientists are trying to predict when and how the deadly strain of the disease will emerge and prepare for a pandemic that has yet to emerge, Sun News quoted Sun News as saying.
Scientists fear the development of the flu virus in ways that endanger people in good health, just like the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic, which killed 100 million people.
The Spanish flu exploits the body's immune system to generate what's known as "cytokine storms" that severely damage the limbs of patients suffering from severe inflammatory shock.
One of the risks associated with "X disease" is its rapid spread in the air, as well as the possibility of transmission, among other species of organisms, as was the case with avian influenza.
Dr. Jonathan Quick, President of the World Health Council, said that human contact makes the epidemic "more serious".
"Our main concern comes from the emergence of the virus in the animal and its transmission to humans, as this would be enough to record 5 to 10% of deaths among infected people because they do not respond not currently available drugs to treat these symptoms, the lack of effective, rapid vaccine ".
The World Health Organization (WHO) warned last year that the conditions were "favorable" to the spread of "disease X" and said in a statement: "We have indications that a serious pandemic can cause a deadly disease in humans ".
"History tells us that the epidemic should be significant and unprecedented in humans," said WHO Scientific Advisor John Arne Rottingen. "We need to prepare ourselves and plan our preparation in terms of vaccines and diagnoses. "
