Discover "Graveyard" and toxins in the Great Blue Pit!

An exploration mission from the bottom of the Great Blue Pit in Belize, the first map to reveal the interior features and depths of this hole.

The mission submarine conducted a sonar analysis of one of the largest offshore pits in the world, 300 meters wide and 125 meters deep.

The mission, which lasted three weeks, allowed researchers to gather enough data to create a three-dimensional image and produce images revealing unprecedented details, including metal formations near the bottom, marked as "encrusted" with marine creatures, as well as cemeteries.

In the large blue hole is a gas rich in hydrogen sulphide, sinuous, colorless, colorless, toxic and flammable, without oxygen.

A submarine prepared by Erica Bergman, an oceanographer, took part in this spectacular expedition funded in part by Virgin's founder, Richard Branson.

The team observed hundreds of dead snails that would have fallen into the hole and could not escape the sloping walls.

Last December, researchers found traces of human contamination in the bottom of the crater, including plastic from water bottles.

It should be noted that the blue hole was once dry land, but the waters were flooded about 10,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age.

The information provided by future missions in the depths of the Great Blue Pit should provide a better understanding of the effects of climate on the planet for thousands of years.
