Qatar Petroleum has announced a major discovery of natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean in the territorial waters of Cyprus, the second of its kind this month after the discovery in South Africa.

This is the second major gas discovery in Qatar in the space of a few weeks, with Qatar Petroleum and its partners, led by Total, a major gas and condensate discovery in South Africa.

Qatar is one of the most important players in the LNG market, with an annual output of 77 million tons. And plans to increase its production capacity by 43% by 2023-2024.
