World-famous fashion doll Barbie celebrates her 60th birthday on Saturday with new collections embodying true models and a career where women are still not well represented.

This is part of Barbie's development in the decades following her first appearance at the New York Doll Show on March 9, 1959.

To celebrate, Mattel made copies of Barbie for 20 women, representing inspiration for other artists, from Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka to British model and activist.

The company also showcased six dolls representing a space astronaut, an airplane pilot, a power, a journalist, a politician and a firefighter. Mattel said that women were not adequately represented.
