Study: Sinus and his relationship with depression

Diseases are linked to each other and become causes of each other, but it is strange that organic diseases cause a psychological illness. Here is a study that explains this and is related to sinus infection and depression.

Sinus and his relationship with depression:

According to a study in Korea, people with chronic sinusitis are more likely to suffer from depression and stress.

"This condition has always been linked to a low standard of living, as well as to physical, social, emotional and cognitive problems," researchers wrote in the journal JAMA for ENT.

Although depression and anxiety are often associated with chronic sinusitis, it is not clear whether mental health problems preceded or caused the infection.

Details of the study:

The study involved 16,000 South Korean patients treated for chronic sinusitis from 2002 to 2013 and more than 32,000 patients did not suffer, none of them having any history of depression or anxiety.

After tracking patients with sinusitis, over a period of 11 years, more than 50% of them were more likely to develop depression or stress.

"Despite the best medical and surgical treatment, some patients with chronic sinusitis have persistent symptoms, and control of this disease is becoming a challenge," said Dr. Dong Kyu Kim, head of the study.

Sinusitis can trigger neurotransmitters, which can combine with genetic and other factors, to cause psychological problems, said Dr. Edward McCall, Head of the Department of Rhinoplasty and Sinus Surgery.
