Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said his team had shown that he was back among the best footballers in Europe after a 3-1 win at Bayern Munich in Germany on Wednesday.
Liverpool, a five-time European champion and finalist last season, beat Bayern to reach the quarter-finals with goals from Sadio Mani and Virgil van Dyck after a goalless draw at Anfield.
After a dominant performance, Liverpool beat Jordon Henderson of Jordan early in the injury and remained calm after Bayern tied for Joel Matip in the first period.
Liverpool scored twice in the second half by Van Dyck and Mani in the 69th and 84th minutes to advance to the quarter-finals.
"It was an important victory for a variety of reasons, especially from a financial point of view and also for confidence," he told reporters.
"We have to go back to the top of football."
