Facebook said some users in different countries were struggling to use their most popular apps to become the longest stay in recent years.

Details:

  • The company said on Wednesday that its users of the platforms Entgram, Wassab and Facebook had encountered problems using the applications.
  • Facebook has turned to Twitter to inform users that it is working to solve the problem.
  • The California-based company said some users had been affected by the problem for more than 10 hours as soon as possible and had confirmed that the problem was not related to a denial of service attack.
  • The Donditector website, which tracks the site's downtime, said social media users in parts of the United States, Japan and Europe were affected by the holidays.
  • Facebook, which derives most of its revenue from advertising, told Bloomberg that he was still studying the full impact of the holidays, "including the ability to pay advertisers back."
  • This is not the first interruption of Facebook: last November, the most famous social network in the world, about 40 minutes, had stopped in an accident caused by a test performed by the company.

The New York Times reported that federal prosecutors were conducting a criminal investigation of Facebook data transactions with major electronics manufacturers.

Highlights from the New York Times Report:

  • A New York grand jury has gathered information from at least two companies making smart phones and other devices, citing anonymous people aware of the application.
  • The two companies have partnered with Facebook's data, enabling them to access personal information for hundreds of millions of users.
  • Facebook, for its part, considered that these contracts were anodyne efforts to help smartphone manufacturers provide Facebook features to users before the social network has its own application.
  • It is unclear when the investigation started or what it focuses on.
  • The Facebook administration has not responded to the request to comment on the information contained in the investigation, according to Associated Press.
