A jury in California ordered $ 29 million for a woman who had been diagnosed with cancer.
She said that asbestos used in the Johnson & Johnson powder had caused cancer.
The decision of the State Supreme Court represents the latest blow to the cosmetics and health care company, which faces more than 1,300 legal actions related to talcum powder.
The company said it would appeal to the judge for what she called "procedural and evidentiary errors" that tainted the lawsuit.
The company said that the women's defense team was not able to prove that the talcum powder contained asbestos.
The company did not provide further details on the errors alleged during the trial.
Terry Levitt brought legal action against the company, claiming that she had used Johnson & Johnson powder in the 1960s and 1970s and discovered her mesothelioma cancer in 2017.
