Medical sources in the Tunisian state of Kasserine announced Friday the spread of the measles virus to alarming and dangerous levels, resulting in the death of 6 cases and wounding more than 600 people.

Tunisian radio quoted the medical sources of the Kasserine Regional Hospital and the Regional Department of Health in the state of death of 6 cases of children and infants since early January, because of the measles virus.

According to the same source, the number of victims has accelerated to reach, on Thursday, 620 people infected with the virus, mainly children and infants.

Medical sources attributed the epidemic to lack of vaccines against the disease, a frequent occurrence especially in rural areas of Kasserine.

According to reports in the press, families of victims in Kasserine reportedly said that the flu epidemic was sudden and rapid, as the virus had been transmitted by a patient from the neighboring Algerian territory.

Tunisia is plagued by health problems since the death of 11 infants from one stroke the seven and eighth of this month in the obstetric department of the association 's hospital in the capital before the balance sheet increases to 15, said Wednesday a spokesman for the court.

The judiciary, together with a government inquiry commission, is investigating the causes of infant mortality. The Ministry of Health suspects that the vaccine given to infants is rotten.

In recent years, the health sector in Tunisia has witnessed a series of cases of corruption, frequent medical errors and lack of drugs due to smuggling.

The public health sector, like other government sectors, has been affected by strikes and the economic crisis in the country since the beginning of the country's political transition in 2011, as well as by poor working conditions and the intensive migration of doctors and nurses abroad.
