Saudi Mobile Telecommunications Company (Zain) has announced that it has acquired on March 17, 2019, 100 MHz bandwidth of 3.5 GHz over a period of 15 years, for a total value of Rs.624 million.

The company said in a statement on Tadawul that the amount would be paid in equal annual installments within 13 years from January 1, 2022, indicating that it would fund the total annual royalties of the new spectrum through its streams. operating cash flow and its current cash reserve.

And indicated that these frequencies would be available from January 1, 2020, noting that this investment was planned in the business plan for 2019.

The 3.5 GHz frequency spectrum will be used to provide 5G generation services. After the acquisition, its total spectrum includes the frequencies of the 800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600 MHz bands as well as 3.5 GHz.

"Spectrum is one of the most important assets of mobile operators. Given the strong demand for high-speed data services in the Kingdom, the launch of new frequencies allows mobile service providers to provide better services and enrich the subscriber experience.

The set of spectrum resources available in the Saudi market will dramatically improve capacity, enrich the user experience of data and enable the deployment of future network technologies, including 5G generation, at a lower total cost capital expenditure.
