Substitute James Milner scored a penalty near the end to save Liverpool from a draw and bring it to a 2-1 victory at Fulham and take the lead in the Premier League on Sunday.
Sadeo Mani scored Liverpool's first goal in the 26th minute and Ryan Babel, the former Liverpool player, tied for Fulham after a defensive foul in the 74th minute.
But nine minutes from the end of the initial time, Mani was given a penalty and Milner clearly placed it in the center of the goal to retain Liverpool's hope of disputing the title.
Liverpool climbed to the top of the league with 76 points in 31 games and two points in Manchester City, which has only 30 games.
Mani shared the ball with compatriot Roberto Fermino before scoring the first goal of the short range.
Fulham's goal came after defender Virgil van Dijk made a bad return to goalkeeper Alison Baker to break the ball and score the goal without refusing to celebrate his former goal.
But Mani again took the spotlight and received a penalty after a foul by Sergio Rico goalkeeper Fulham and Milner, who executed the ball vigorously.
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the league's top scorer last season, missed an easy opportunity to add the third goal after a superb Mani pass in the final minutes.
