A team of scientists from the University of Illinois conducted a study whose results showed that free radicals of fatty acids in the blood promote growth and proliferation of breast cancer cells, which explains why it increases the risk of getting it after menopause.
The researchers analyzed blood samples from a group of postmenopausal women, of whom 37 were overweight moderate, 63 were obese and 21 at the beginning of the study were overweight, but lost the increase.
The results of the analysis showed that the level of free acids was high in obese women, but decreased during the process of weight loss.
During the study, researchers added blood collected to obese women and added it to the plantation positive for breast cancer. Cancerous tissues became more active and developed rapidly because fatty acids stimulated the signal pathways with the participation of a group of "mTOR" proteins that contribute to the growth and proliferation of cancer cells.
Breast cancer is the most prevalent among women, with an annual incidence of 800,000 to 1 million worldwide.
