Ahmed Anani, a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, said Syria's return to the Arab League was a matter of time, as most Arab countries wanted Damascus to return to its regional and Arab environment.
At the same time, Anani is waiting for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to attend the next Arab summit.
"European countries rely heavily on the Arab countries in the fight against terrorism and illegal immigration for their direct influence," he told Sputnik, in response to the call launched by Sistani at the Arab-European summit Monday at the European Union to agree on a "comprehensive approach" on the security of the European Union.
Anani stressed that there is a difference in the definition of terrorism between European countries and Arab countries.
"Great Britain, for example, does not consider the Muslim Brotherhood to be a terrorist, whereas many Arab countries consider it a threat to security," he said, adding that he believed in the need to reach agreement and a precise definition of terrorism and thus impose sanctions on countries considered as sanctuaries for terrorist groups.
