"Facebook" allocates $ 300 million to the American press

Facebook announced that it was going to use some of its funds to support US journalism efforts in "news deserts" – areas with little or no coverage.

The network announced that it would launch the "Network of Press Associations", which will receive proposals in May, coming from areas not covered by local media.

The decision was made after the research confirmed a decline in local news in several parts of the United States.

Facebook and Google redoubled their efforts to support the press as they feared that their sophisticated advertising networks would capture the bulk of electronic revenue, making competition for the media difficult.

In the United States, social media has become the primary source of information for Americans, according to a poll released last year by the Bio Research Center.

The study found that 20% of US adults received information via social media, compared with 16% of newspapers.

Earlier this year, Facebook announced that it will spend $ 300 million over three years in support of the press, with a focus on promoting seriously affected local media.
