Sugary drinks increase the risk of death from heart disease and cancer!
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – According to a new study, a single drink a day increases the risk of death from heart disease or cancer.
The Harvard University study found daily consumption of a pack of soda, juice or energy drinks increased the risk of death from heart disease by 31% and the risk of premature death from any cause , including cancer, more than a fifth.

Dietary drinks threaten consumers with premature death
The researchers found that replacing daily consumption with a healthier diet reduced the risk of premature death.
However, the risk increases if a person consumes more than four packs in his daily diet.
"Our results provide more support to reduce the consumption of sugary drinks and replace them with other beverages, preferably water, to improve health and longevity," said Vasante Malik, researcher at Nutrition Department of the Harvard Institute of Public Health and lead author.
To determine the effect of non-alcoholic beverages on the risk of death, researchers analyzed data from 80,647 women in a study from 1980 to 2014 on the health of nurses and 37,716 men in a follow-up study conducted between 1986 and 2014 with health workers.
The results showed that, compared to participants who drank less than once a month a pack of soft drinks, those who drank twice a day or more were 31% more likely to die from a cardiac disease.
Each additional packet of soft drinks and other sugary drinks was associated with an increased risk of infection by 10%.
Regardless of heart disease, drinking two or more sugary drinks increases the risk of premature death by 21% compared to those who drink soda less than once a month.
