The King of Spain Philip VI stressed the high priority that his country attached to its relations with the Arab countries on the basis of the historical ties between the two parties in many areas and the distinguished relations existing between them at the official and popular.
The King of Spain explained that this was a basis on which to build a breakthrough in the course of these relations, in the interests of both parties.
This occurred during a meeting with the secretary general of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, currently visiting Madrid, along with King Philip VI of Spain.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Ambassador Mahmoud Afifi, spokesman for the secretary-general of the Arab League, said that Aboul Gheit had been congratulated for Spain's positive and favorable attitude to Arab issues at the international level.
He emphasized the importance of promoting deep-rooted historical relations between the Arab and Spanish parties and of taking advantage of the great cultural and civilizational rapprochement that made it possible to achieve this goal.
