In one day, last Tuesday, many international media published two important and contiguous articles.
The first news comes from the World Bank and indicate that the cost of wars in the Arab country in the last eight years has amounted to about $ 900 billion.
The United States is the world's largest arms exporter, while Saudi Arabia is the world's largest buyer, according to the second report of the International Peace Research Institute of Stockholm (SIPRI).
Mahmood Mohieddin, the current senior vice president of the World Bank Group, said the cost of destruction and lost growth opportunities in Arab countries that have experienced wars between 2010 and 2018 amounted to $ 900 billion. dollars, according to very conservative estimates, Mr. Mohieldin went to Kuwait as part of the annual review of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals program.
According to the same agency, Mohiuddin, respected international economic expert who held the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investment in Egypt before 2011, the Arab countries recorded the worst global performance of the index income distribution. Where 10% of the richest represent 60% of the national income, against 45% in Europe.
This is the first, and the second is that the United States alone has exported more than one-third of world arms exports in recent years.
The Swedish Siberian Institute said that the volume of arms exports had increased by 8% between 2014 and 2018, while America was selling weapons to more than 98 countries by 36%. While Russia came in second and was distributed to 48 countries. It is interesting to note that more than half of US arms sales were made in Arab countries. Saudi Arabia received 22% of total sales and ranked first in the world with a 12% import rate.
Saudi Arabia alone was the largest importer of arms, but India, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Australia and Algeria accounted for about one-third of world arms exports, while five major exporters other than America and Russia were France, Germany and China.
The above is information and data, and we wonder if the meaning of our words stops arming ?! Of course, the answer is no. Each country is supposed to be ready to face all the threats and challenges to maintain its existence and stability. The Arab region is already exposed to existential threats in recent years, whether because of terrorist organizations or the majority of neighboring countries that are dealing with us as a weak, fragile and failing region that should be "imported". But who reads the reports together, we will discover that we Arabs have failed to develop policies that serve the interests of the people and have plunged us into wars for the most part vain.
The link between the two reports indicates that the distribution of wealth is very poor and that some represent the majority of wealth, while the majority of Arab citizens suffer from hardship.
Second important point: by linking the two reports, we will discover that America and the five major arms exporting countries are not in the interest of the war in the Arab region: they will try to blow up the fire even if it he is under the ashes.
For example, who is the beneficiary of the continuation of the Arab-Iranian conflict? We will discover that Israel is the first and the great nations that want to plunge us into vain and sectarian wars.
Imagine if the wars in Yemen, Syria and Libya were ending?
The result is that arms exports will cease and Arabs will discover that their fundamental problem is the freedom and overall development of education, health and technology, and then their conflict with Israel.
Should we blame America and the major arms exporters for earning billions behind us ?! The answer is no, but we must first and foremost be responsible for our backwardness, our ignorance, our sickness and our tyranny, which allows all those who love and benefit from taking advantage of our differences.
Until we come out of this long hibernation, our resources and our lives will remain subject to the great powers who have an interest in continuing our wars until we continue to import their weapons and not to devote ourselves. to our main problems. And believed the saying: "Hafl makes a living on the mad" !!
