Sharjah 24 – Ona:

Russian scientists have presented a new adult TB vaccine after successfully completing the preclinical testing phase and the first stage of clinical trials.

"This year, the second phase of the clinical trials will be over and we will have a new adult vaccine," said Tatiana Yakovleva, Russia's First Deputy Minister of Health, on World Tuberculosis Day.

The new vaccine will protect children and adults vaccinated with BCG in their childhood, which will allow adults to restore immune memory and prevent tuberculosis.

In November 2018, the Russian Minister of Health, Veronica Skfortsova, spoke about two TB vaccines: studies have shown that they generate immunity against the disease and do not present a health hazard.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tuberculosis affects every year about 10 million people, including 1 million children.
