Cairo – (Masrawy):

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said he refused the announcement made by the Honduran President and the Romanian Prime Minister of their intention to transfer their embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The spokesman for the Secretary-General, Ambassador Mahmoud Afifi, said in a statement Tuesday that Abul Gheit had asserted that some countries seeking to satisfy the United States and Israel by announcing the transfer of his embassy to Jerusalem were involved in a serious violation of international law And that the transfer of embassies to the proceedings is invalid and does not change this situation and confers no legal status to occupation.

He added that the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States considered that the countries taking such measures might develop friendly ties with the Arab world, calling on them to reconsider his negative policy which is not used to establish peace in the region.

He pointed out that in the case of Romania, it seems that the decision to transfer the embassy to Jerusalem was taken on the basis of personal prejudices of the Prime Minister and that the Romanian President appreciates differently the order of realization of the negative consequences.

Aboul Gheit called on Honduras and Romania to reconsider their positions, noting that the Arab summit in Tunis early next week would study this issue.
