Many think that it is difficult for technology companies to be victims of fraud, but this is already happening: between 2013 and 2015, Facebook and Google were deceived by paying tens of millions of dollars to fraudsters.
Evaldas Rimasosx has admitted the fraud in US court and was sued in a New York court for data theft, money laundering and up to 30 years of imprisonment behind bars in the verdict rendered in July.
According to Bloomberg, the indictment Rimasuskas was installed on both companies posing as the company "Quanta Computer", which has several contracts with Google and Facebook.
According to the source, Google and Facebook are customers of the Taiwanese company working in the electronics sector. The defendant managed to create several documents, thanks to his cooperation with unidentified people.
The fraudsters created fake e-mail addresses on behalf of the Taiwanese company, as well as other fake invoices and papers, and managed to convince Google and Facebook to pay and then transferred to bank accounts managed by the defendant Rimasusx in several countries.
In 2017, the defendant was handed over to the United States and the judicial authorities suspect that he created the infrastructure necessary for fraud, but he is unlikely to be persuaded that Facebook and Google give high payments.
Google said it had recovered the money transferred, while Facebook confirmed that it had recovered most of what it had converted.
