The head of the Franco-Saudi expedition of archaeological exploration in the east of the kingdom, after a 36-month exploration, announced that the Thaj site in the eastern region, was the largest archaeological site of eastern Saudi Arabia.
During a lecture at the National Museum in Riyadh, Dr. Jerome Romer, French archaeologist, explained that the excavation work on the Thag archaeological site showed that Thag was a major urban center of the last centuries and first centuries of our era.
According to Dr. Jerome, the exploration of this city illuminates a new chapter in the history of the Arabian Peninsula: the three seasons of exploration performed on the site from 2016 to 2018 revealed that Thaj is the only site to be a city on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula and one of the Arab kingdoms. Pre-Islamic period.
Jerome pointed out that, in ancient times, the eastern Arabian Peninsula was a commercial and cultural center located at the crossroads of great civilizations south of the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant, Mesopotamia and India, and that its cities were home to rich convoys and powerful trading realms.
The head of the French-Saudi Archaeological Excavation Expedition in Thaj, in the east of the country, said the archaeological site of Thaj is 90 km west of Jubail and is home to Remains of an exceptionally large old town.
