Tunisian Foreign Minister Khamis Al-Jahnawi on Wednesday called for an assessment of the suspension of Syria's membership in the Arab League since 2011. Jahinawi's call comes as a result of the state of anticipation in the Arab street regarding the possibility of Syria's re-accession to the Arab summit organized by Tunisia on Sunday.
"Syria is an Arab country and a genuine part of the nation, and its position is part of a common Arab effort, but the Arabs have decided to suspend their membership in Cairo. Foreign Ministers must evaluate what has happened since then, "said the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Arab Broadcasting Union.
He stressed that the assessment should include "the political and security level, and if leaders see the conditions for Syria's return to Arab institutions, this decision is made at the summit meeting".
