Saida Karach, spokeswoman for the Tunisian presidency, said Thursday that the Arab League summit to be held in Tunisia at the end of March will discuss the return of Syria to its university headquarters and " will make its decision "in this regard.

Qarash told national radio that his country was not an enemy of Syria, expressing Tunisia's respect for the Syrian people and its decisions regarding the choice of its leaders and representatives.

Mr Qarash pointed out that it was a consistent position of Tunisian diplomacy since the inauguration of President Béji Kaid al-Sibsi in 2015.

She added that the decision to deport Syria to the Arab League falls under the same structure, which decided to freeze her membership in 2011, and that Tunisia can not host the summit to make the decision to restore diplomatic relations with Damascus.

"The question of Syria's return to university was discussed at the first joint EU-EU summit in Sharm el-Sheikh last week," she said.
