NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Eating an ounce of nuts a day can slow the growth and spread of breast cancer, according to a recent US study.
Researchers at the Marshall University School of Medicine and the Edward Comprehensive Cancer Center conducted the study, published in the journal Nutrition Research.
To monitor the effect of nuts in reducing breast cancer, the team monitored a group of infected mice.
The team found that eating up to one ounce of walnuts a day (28 grams) for two weeks helped slow the growth and spread of breast cancer.
Based on these results, the researchers tested the nuts on a group of women with breast cancer, as part of a first clinical trial, in which they ate one ounce of walnuts a day.

The researchers found that breast cancer tumors began to decline and reduce the spread of tumors in those who ate nuts, compared to their peers who did not eat nuts.
The researchers also found that the nuts had caused a significant change in the expression of breast cancer genes, which contributed to the fight against malignant tumors.
According to the head of the research team, nut processing has slowed the growth and spread of breast cancer in mice and women with the disease. Elaine Hardman.
She added d. Hardman said that a large-scale research was needed to confirm that walnut consumption actually reduced the risk of breast cancer or recurrence.
