Aspirin is a new hope in the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis

TB infection kills nearly two million people each year. What is difficult to fight is that it often resists drugs. Australian researchers have, however, revealed a new hope of fighting TB with generalized aspirin. How is it done?

Its benefits are many and well known: it relieves headaches, is useful in case of leaching and reduces the risk of heart disease; Aspirin is one of the most common medical properties. But the latest scientific study on the benefits of aspirin has shown a new scientific discovery. An Australian study conducted at the Centenary Institute showed that aspirin is also effective against tuberculosis.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this serious illness is among the world's ten most deadly diseases. It infected 10.4 million people in 2016, causing 1.8 million deaths in the same year. The global fight against tuberculosis has always been close to antibiotic resistance. Aspirin is important because it can fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

A study by Australian scientists, published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, conducted laboratory experiments on mice with drug-resistant tuberculosis. Using microscopic tests, they were able to monitor the blood flow in the mice and how the platelets were moving around the infection.

Scientists at the Centenary Institute in Sydney observed how the TB bacteria had deceived the immune system using platelets and thus discouraged any attempt to combat it. But when aspirin was used, bacteria could not fool the immune system. That is, aspirin was good for the immune system in the fight against tuberculosis, said the German website Hailbraxis.
