The security chief of Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, said Saturday that the Saudi government had reached Bezos' phone and obtained confidential information.
Gavin de Becker, a long-time security advisor, said he ended his investigation by publishing confidential text messages between Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, a former TV presenter published in the National Inquirer in January, and that Bezos frequented Sanchez.
Last month, Bezos accused the newspaper's owner of trying to blackmail him by threatening to publish "intimate images" that he would have sent to Sanchez, unless he publicly states that the newspaper report was not politically motivated.
De Becker said in an article on The Daily Best that National Enquirer's parent company, American Media, had asked De Baker to deny any evidence of "spying or sequencing their access to information".
"Our investigators and a number of experts concluded with great confidence that the Saudis had reached the phone of Bezos and received special information … Until today, it is no longer necessary. is not clear that American Media is aware of the details and to what extent, "wrote Baker.
A spokesman for the Saudi Embassy in Washington declined to comment. In February, the Saudi Foreign Minister said the kingdom had "nothing to do with" the National Enquirer report.
A representative from American Media did not respond to the request for comment. American Media has stated that it has acted legally by publishing the story of Bezos.
De Becker stated that he had communicated the results of his investigation to the US federal authorities without giving further details. (Reuters)
