Google closes Google+ social network

Google has officially launched the process of shutting down and deleting all customer accounts on its Google Plus social network, thus ending the company's attempt to compete directly with Facebook and Twitter.

The search giant decided to divest itself of its Google+ social network because of its low usage and security issues, about eight years after its appearance.

Google has revealed two important data breaches that could have revealed information about tens of millions of Google+ users to external developers.

The first violation, which has been secret for months, prompted Google to decide that it was time to close Google+.

While the second breach accelerated the company's closure plans and submitted four months, which means closing the service in April instead of the month of August.

Google said in both cases that there was no evidence that the developers were aware of these violations or had benefited from them.

Google+ API access has been disabled, according to the closing date schedule.

Google acknowledged that Google had not met the company's expectations for growth in the number of users.

"Although our engineering teams have put a lot of effort and dedication into building Google over the years, they have not been very well received by consumers or developers and have seen a limited interaction between users and applications, "wrote Ben Smith from Google in October.

Ben Smith revealed that 90% of Google+ user sessions lasted less than five seconds.

Although the platform did not live up to Facebook's competition, it has hosted a small community of loyal users over the years.

In the early days of Google+, Google had forced consumers to create a social network account to comment on other services, such as YouTube, which angered users. Google+ was associated with the Gmail account creation process.

The company's decisions have severely damaged the social network because it was not a familiar social platform for consumers.

The company said that the complete removal of all Google+ personal accounts would take a few months. Some pages may continue to show during this time, but deleting content, including Google+ photos and videos, now begins.

This shows that closing the social network does not affect other services such as Gmail, Drive, YouTube or Google Photos, and that users can still download their content from the platform.
