The National Institutes of Health announced Wednesday that they are currently testing the first influenza vaccine in humans.
The vaccine will be immunized to fifty-three people between the ages of 18 and 70, after which experimental researchers will monitor the immune system response of the people participating in the trial in about 15 months to determine their response to the vaccine.
The researchers are looking to develop a complete flu vaccine that will target the disease components present in all influenza strains, regardless of the course of the disease. This can result in the elimination of annual vaccination against certain strains of the flu.

There are 29 types of influenza and perhaps more. At the present time, vaccines can protect against three types of viruses at a time, but not all.
