A California, California, jury ordered $ 29 million from a woman who said that asbestos used in a Johnson & Johnson powder had caused her cancer.
The decision of the state Supreme Court is the latest blow to the cosmetics and healthcare company, which faces more than 1,300 lawsuits related to powder.
The company said it would dispute the verdict for what it described as "procedural and documentation errors" that tainted the trial process. The company said that the women's defense team was not able to prove that the powder contained asbestos.
The company did not elaborate on the alleged errors during the trial.
Terry Levitt brought a lawsuit against the company, claiming that she had used Johnson & Johnson's powder in the 1960s and 1970s and discovered her cancer in 2017.
