New study finds that if there is any intention to increase body weight, it is better for people to start puberty with normal weight and then slowly gain the extra pounds.
According to a report published by the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, researchers at Ohio State University studied data on two generations of residents of Framingham, Massachusetts, aged 31 to 80, and it was found that people of normal weight in adulthood, then became overweight later, provided they do not suffer from obesity, they live longer.
Surprisingly, adults who fit this definition lived longer than adults whose body weights had been in the normal range throughout their lives.
It was also found that those who were obese in adulthood and continued to gain weight had the highest death rate.
Advice to young people
The study found that the younger generation suffers from overweight and obesity earlier in life than their parents and more likely to die associated with increased obesity.
While researchers don’t recommend that adults gain weight on purpose, with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25, they do suggest that adding a few kilograms may be appropriate at a later stage in life.
What’s more, the researchers warned that this increase does not translate into obesity, which starts with a body mass index of 30 or greater.
