Doctors have been able to determine the signs of a heart attack years ago, by means of a simple blood test that costs only a few dollars, while avoiding a major health crisis.
British doctors have tested a protein called troponin, a high allergy to blood, released into the bloodstream by the heart muscle when it is damaged, the British newspaper The Times reported yesterday. Scientists tested the new test to see if patients with chest pain had a heart attack and the test was approved as a predictive test. Doctors can test heart attacks 10 years before they occur. Current predictions regarding heart attacks are based on lifestyle, age and weight.
"We can use troponin levels as a measure of heart health more directly than current screening tools," said Nick Mills, a cardiologist and vascular science researcher at the University of Edinburgh, who led the test.
